Built in 1921, this shelter was named for Governor Percival W. Clement.
It has a reputation as a party spot for locals.

I'm the guy behind DownTheTrail.com. I love the outdoors, and the Grand Canyon is my favorite destination. Be sure to subscribe to my newsletter (at the bottom of the page), or else I'll slip a rock into your backpack when you're not looking.
Looks awesome. Google now shows it as “permanently closed”. Do you have any information about whether it is still possible to sleep there?
The outhouse at this shelter used to have a very professional-looking sign on it, designating it the “Lt. Governor Jarvis Snodgrass Memorial Gazebo,” which was the subject of much mirth among me and my friends back in the 1970s.
I STAYED IN GOVERNOR CLEMENT SHELTER MANY YEARS AGO, MAYBE 1964-1965; IT WAS GOOD SEEING THOSE PHOTOS.
Thank you, I haven’t been to Clement Shelter In over 25 years. When I was younger it was one of my favorite places to go I spent an amazing amount of time there. I’ve stayed there in all seasons, and in all weather conditions. This was the perfect memory. Thank you again
