Roy Buchanan was the head of the Long Trail Patrol under GMC president Mortimer R Proctor. Buchanan Mountain is also named in his honor, and Bruce Peak is named after his brother. Buchanan’s crew added 37 shelters to the Long Trail.

My father (Basil Goodridge) designed and lead the crew that built the shelter in 1984. He packed the wood in that was used in construction, and my cousin’s lumber mill provided some of that wood. A local Boy Scout troop was instrumental in the construction as well.
