When I post about my Grand Canyon hikes, I end up skipping all the short jaunts along the rim from the time I lived there.
This leaves a lot of nice photos and experiences that would otherwise go unseen from a backcountry hiking perspective, so that’s what I’m showing you here.
Each instance of rim photography doesn’t call for an individual website post, so I’m doing an overview for each calendar year.
This is the second of 2 of these posts for the year 2010.
Sunset at Mohave Point

First I have a set of photos from Mohave Point, along with a few other locations along the Hermit Road.
This was only about a week after a big blizzard, so there was still a lot of snow.
Trailview Overlook & Maricopa Point
Further west toward Mohave Point – the formation in the immediate foreground is called The Alligator.
The sunset trends all the way toward the south in winter.
Sunset at Lipan Point
January 13, 2010
It was a just a couple weeks later when I went in the opposite direction for sunset, out to Lipan Point.
the snow-covered Coconino Rim and San Francisco Peaks, away to the south
Holiday Sunset at El Tovar
December 14, 2010
Finally, I just happened to be at El Tovar this winter evening when I noticed the brilliant color of this sunset. I think it was the night of the Xanterra employee’s company holiday party.
Fortunately I had an old pocket camera on hand to grab a few images.
