sunrise at Yaki Point

Near the village on the south rim of the Grand Canyon lies the easily accessible Rim Trail, stretching from Pipe Creek Vista in the east to Hermit’s Rest in the west. It is mostly paved and even handicap-accessible in some places.

Before exploring below the rim I had it mind to walk the full length of this trail, so I boarded a pre-dawn shuttle for Yaki Point with my new friend James to do just that.

An up-close sighting of a female elk – the first of what would become a common occurrance of life in and around the village.

In this photo you can faintly make out some people standing on Mather Point.

Mather Point may be the most popular overlook at the Grand Canyon. Most of the traffic that comes to the park through the south entrance is funnelled toward the Visitor Center, and Mather Point is located only a short walk from there. It provides a first view of the canyon for many.
