On the evening of May 8th, I went out to Pima Point to view the sunset.
This is the westernmost viewpoint along the Hermit Road before reaching Hermit’s Rest.
The major drainage at the bottom of this image is Hermit Creek.
looking east toward Mojave Point and Hopi Point
This is the Monument Creek Canyon, and Granite Rapid. Pima Point is especially interesting to those that have backpacked the Hermit Trail – Tonto – Bright Angel Loop.
The full moon rose in the east as I rode the free shuttle bus back to the village. I got off the bus at “The Abyss” to take a few more photos.
The Grand Canyon under a full moon is a sight not to be missed. It can be seen as though in daylight, with shadows cast across its vast moonlit wilderness.
These photos were taken in the Village behind Bright Angel Lodge, as I waited for a friend to get off work at the restaurant. Each image is a 30-second black and white exposure. I did not have a tripod, and simply rested the camera on the CCC-constructed rock wall along the walkway.
The prominent light on the North Rim is the Grand Canyon Lodge.
