This is just before the trail opens up at the mouth of Bass Canyon above the Colorado River.
First look at the river – I couldn’t wait to cool off in the cold green water.
From the mouth of Bass Canyon, the trail turns to the west, staying above the river before a cairn marks the descent to the beach.
This old boat, The Ross Wheeler, was abandoned here in 1915 by a party of river runners that included an early filmmaker. The craft itself was constructed by Bert Loper, and is now chained and bolted to the rock. It was named after a murdered friend of his.
ahhhhhh…..
I couldn’t help but notice this lizard perched high on a rock near my camp. He’d scramble away when I’d get close to photograph him, but after I’d walk away, he’d repeatedly return to his throne with a view.
