New Waterfalls at Havasu – June 2009

This bridge was obviously recently rebuilt.

First look at Havasu Falls

the creek below Havasu Falls, on toward the campground

The two photos above show how the pools at the bottom of the falls have changed. Some of the trees are gone, too.

I continued on down to check out the campground, but that’s as far as I went. It looked okay to me, but that really means nothing since I had never been there before.

a last look on the return hike

It never occurred to me that the Supai Group geological formation could take its name from the Havasupai Village. Virtually the entire hike to Supai takes place in this rock layer.

The Watchers still stand, so all is well in the grand scheme of things at Havasu Canyon.

a “modern pictograph”

The near-full moon rises over the rim of the canyon. The return was very enjoyable in the evening – with a nice sense of solitude – even if I did see a few other hikers.
