Mardi Gras 2009 – Fat Tuesday on Bourbon Street New Orleans

I left southern Florida early Tuesday morning and arrived in New Orleans that night. The Florida panhandle was somewhat of long, boring stretch, but it was fun to go through Mobile Alabama.

I found a relatively safe place to park and walked a few blocks to Bourbon Street. It was absolutely insane, as you can imagine. Bumper to bumper traffic, people dancing on the hoods of cars, etc.

I was alone and only checked it out for a few hours, but still managed to have a good time, of course.

The police presence was overwhelming. I’d never seen so many cops in one place.

There were plenty of amusing, interesting people around.

“You think we’re too old to have a good time, don’t you?!”

Toward the end of the night there was sort of a “Police Parade.” Maybe a modern, uncelebrated closing ceremony of Mardi Gras?
