Jack Daniels Distillery Tour – Lynchburg, Tennessee

From New Orleans I backtracked northeast to Huntsville, Alabama to visit a friend. From there I was headed north toward Nashville when I saw a sign pointing toward the Jack Daniels Distillery. I slammed on the brakes and took the exit.

Lynchburg is truely located out in the “sticks” of eastern Tennessee, ironically in a dry county.

While poking about the Visitor’s Center, I learned that the tours were free, and the next one would be starting soon. Cool!

The first stop on the tour is the Rickyard, way up in the back of the hollow. This is where they burn down the charcoal that’s used in the mellowing process.

This spring is the sole reason behind the existence of Jack Daniels in Lynchburg – all of the water used in their whiskey comes from here.

This old safe single-handedly killed Jack Daniels! He kicked it one day in anger, injuring his foot. The injury caused an infection that eventually lead to his death.
