First Visit to Shoshone Point

I hiked the rim from Yaki Point to Shoshone Point, and back out to Desert View Drive.

This may be my favorite road sign of all time, on Desert View Drive near the turn-off to the South Kaibab Trailhead. Mountain Lion Crossing! The Park Service posted these after a handful of those big cats had been hit by vehicles along the scenic road.

Pattie Butte can be seen on the ridge below.

a small burned-out section along the rim, likely sparked by a lightning strike

Shoshone Point

This pillar is called “Duck on a Rock.” Apparently the formation used to look like a duck, but the uppermost section cracked and fell off within the last decade.

The sunset is obscured by Yaki Point to west.

Horseshoe Mesa to the east.
