Exploring Grapevine Creek – Day 1 of 3

We often strayed from the Tonto to check out the views of the Inner Gorge.

At Mike’s feet is the cairn that marks the beginning of the Old Grandview Trail.

We made our way down this route for about 100 yards, and then the notion sank in that The Colorado River was still all the way down there, so we decided to save this excursion for another trip.

The long view across the mouth of Grapevine Creek – when hiking through this section of the Tonto Trail, it takes hours upon hours to reach the other side.

Mike is barely visible in the bottom right corner of this photo. I was experimenting with a new camera on this hike that I ultimately did not keep.

The trail along the east side of Grapevine is mildly exposed – this is a decent example of that.

Soon we reached the campsites where the trail crosses the creek, and settled in for the night. It rained for a few minutes. Rain!
