On some mornings I would jog to work, and bring along my pocket camera. I had to be at the El Tovar Hotel every morning at 6am, so this required some extra motivation to wake up even earlier than usual, but it was always worth it. I lived at Rowzer Hall, near the – “trailer village” RV campground – so the route from there brought me a mile past Park Headquarters to the rim, and then another mile along the rim to the El Tovar.
In early June, this coincided perfectly with the sunrise.
A fine morning commute.
Every morning there were these beautiful bull elk in front of the hotel, enjoying a breakfast of sprinkler-fed green grass. They must have loved that stuff, because they were there almost every day.
