It was a stormy evening on June 4th at the south rim. I sat in the common room of the employee housing dormitory, hard at work on an older version of this website. A door to the outside had been propped open, and suddenly I noticed that the lowering sun was shining brilliantly through the clouds – unexpected after the day’s dark rainstorms. I grabbed my camera and immediately set off toward the rim, but I was a little too late.
