Climbing The Battleship

This is not an ancient structure – supposedly it’s a rock shelter constructed by some folks that were considering building a tramway through here.

If you find yourself unable to attain the summit of the Battleship (Or even if you do), it’s well worth the extra time to proceed to the northernmost point above the Redwall. The walking is easy and the views are spectacular, perhaps even better than the summit.

Riding the bow of The Battleship – yeah, I uncharacteristically wore jeans on this hike.

Looking down the on the Bright Angel Trail through the Redwall, below the 3-mile rest house, dubbed “Jacob’s Ladder.”

Near the end of this hike, I was pleased to observe all of these vultures soaring in the breeze.
