November 5

On November 5th we spent the day in Arches National Park. I had never been there before, so naturally the first course of action was to see the sights along the road. At a glance Arches appeared to be more or less a “drive-thru park” with only about 20 miles of hiking trails.

Park Avenue Viewpoint

The formation on the left is called Balanced Rock. Edward Abbey’s trailer and residence chronicled in Desert Solitaire was somewhere in this vicinity.

South Window

This is the beginning of the Devils Garden Trail. We hiked it to Lanscape Arch.
